India was fighting tooth n nail wid Pak army intruders in Kargil, I was writting essays about brave soldiers in anticipation that CBSE would definitely touch this topic ( I mean who could not predict Class X CBSE papers back then?)... I am not writing essays about the Indo-pak situation these days, but I am definitely reading up a lot on the issue. And i have come across some really good essays_ Jug Suraiya, Barkha Dutt and Rajdeep Sardesai did not write their coloumns as "just another job"...They wrote with emotion and intensity... It was very refreshing to a regular Sunday reader of the newspapers such as myself.... Yes, things are similar... in 1999 I opened the newspapers to find updates on the Kargil war (read heroic stories)... in 2008 I open the newspaper to see the build-up of a war-never-to-be! Heroic stories/legends too.
I am in Jaipur these days, spending time with D&M... its really different this year around here (but similar to 1999)... I am getting closer to D&M and distancing myself from P&M... I was angry with P&M back then and I am anguished now. P&M have been unfair and I dont think I should expect them to be fair too.. they are getting old... D&M are however as doting as ever.. they really take care of me and all that. they are old and getting older.
Yesterday D&M were napping in my room, while i was on you-tube... the first thing i typed on the search bar was "Kiss me".. the number by (lost and never to be found) six pence none the richer. I heard the song and had goose bumps and if I were in a movie.. there would have been a flash back. I mean i could see myself sitting in 771, Asian games village (all in 1999)... listening to the song with Tushi while Pokher brought us lunch.... The memory is uncanny...
I quickly popped-up another window and typed in "garbage"... heard almost all the songs by them and what flashed back?... an advertisement of an album which featured Garbage.. I remember asking Tushi .." hey i ve never heard them.. lets buy the audio when we r in music world next"... Tushi was like "Abu, you wont like the music"... How wrong he was?
Ya I liked being in 1999.. (eyes closed n day dreaming)
P&M gave me a lecture yet again... In 1999 it was wid studies... in 2008 its wid my job... in 1999, i sat and listened to them wet-eyed... in 2008 I walked out... but but wet-eyed... "you dont understand me!"_roxxette
I miss 1999... I was in love for the first time.. I made out with SS for the first time.. it was enthrilling..
